Age of the Gods Book of Oracle Review

After the success Playtech Origins had with Age of the Gods Norse: Book of Dwarves, it’s no wonder they keep playing with the Book of… mechanic. Age of the Gods: Book of Oracle is more orthodox in that manner, but you will benefit from a randomly chosen and potentially expanding symbol in the base game. The game is clearly inspired by the legend of Pythia, the high priestess of the Temple of Apollo, better known as the Oracle of Delphi.

Visually, Book of Oracle is decent enough, and the greek mythology theme is somewhat of a refreshing touch compared to yet another dusty egyptian tomb. The 1,000x per spin potential is pretty weak compared to what most book slots offer, but you can chase the 4 jackpots with a very decent 96.48 % RTP here (not least compared to the 94.11 % offered in Book of Dwarves).

Age of the Gods: Book of Oracle Features

The Book is on display above the reels, and the pages will flick on every spin. Sometimes you get a blank page, which means nothing happens. However, when you get a page with a symbol you can trigger the Book feature.

This only happens if the book symbol on display matches a symbol that’s part of a winning combo. The chosen symbol will then expand to fill the entire reel, and this gives you an additional win calculation. You can win up to 1,000x your stake if the Oracle symbol fills the screen, while the lowest value royal symbols (10, J and Q) can provide payouts up to 75x your stake.

You trigger the bonus round by landing 3, 4 or 5 book scatters anywhere in sight on the same spin. You will get 10 free spins to start with, and the book above the reels will randomly select the chosen symbol. The selected symbol becomes the expanding symbol for the duration of the bonus round, and it will expand as long as enough symbols land to create a win.

However, the Book feature remains active during the free spins round also, which means that new potential expanding symbols will be chosen on each spin. This means that you can get multiple expanding symbols on the same spin, and they will take turns to expand and give you their respective payouts.

You can retrigger the bonus round by landing 3+ book scatters anywhere on a free spin, and this gives you 5 new spins. You can do this indefinitely, as there is no upper limit on how many extra spins you can get.

The Age of the Gods Jackpot feature can be triggered randomly on any given spin. You will then get a classic Pick’em bonus game, where you select coins from a grid. You keep going until you’ve matched up 3 jackpot coins, and you then win the corresponding jackpot. There are 4 progressive jackpots up for grabs, as usual:

  • Power Jackpot which seeds at €/£50
  • Extra Power Jackpot which seeds at €/£500
  • Super Power Jackpot which seeds at €/£5,000
  • Ultimate Power Jackpot which seeds at €/£100,000

The Ultimate Power Jackpot is landed around every 6 weeks on average, and the average payout is a solid £485,116. An anonymous Chilean won the biggest jackpot so far, of $1,365,801 (or approximately £999,090).

The 200 Spins Age of the Gods: Book of Oracle Experience

Being no stranger to the Age of the God series, nor the book slot series for that matter, we certainly looked forward to another merger of the two popular concepts. Our 200 spins test session was captured via screen recording software as usual, and you can check out the highlights in the brief and edited video below.

Review Summary

Playtech’s Ash Gaming department has released another merger of the book slot concept with their popular Age of the Gods series, and we really enjoyed their first effort in this direction, Book of Dwarves. Age of the Gods: Book of Oracle is not as innovative and epic as the predecessor title however, and it stays more true to the original form of the book slot tradition.

Having the book on display above the reels is clever, and the expanding base game symbols makes this less of a grind than many book slots out there. The single spin max win is 5x lower than what’s become the norm in this genre however, so this game is mostly for jackpot chasers. If you enjoy both the Book of… mechanic, and the Age of the Gods series, you should definitely check this one out.

Pros

  • Winning symbols will expand if chosen by the Book
  • Bonus round with chosen symbol and randomly chosen symbol per spin
  • 4 progressive jackpots where the big one seeds at £100K
  • RTP of 96.48 % is decent for a progresssive jackpot slot

Cons

  • High volatility and 1,000x single spin max win

If you love Age of the Gods: Book of Oracle you should also try:

Age of the Gods Norse: Book of Dwarves – is the first blending of the 2 concepts, and the result is a highly entertaining 5×5 slot with 50 ways to win. The chosen symbols expand to 3×3 mega symbols here, and you can level up for extra spins and extra expanding symbols in the bonus round.

Book of Sheba – is an iSoftBet creation featuring their innovative Hyperbet feature. This means that you can commit to 50 spins up front, and benefit from an increased RTP because of the progressive symbol collection multiplier that can increase up to 1,000x. Golden books create sticky golden reels in the bonus round, and you can win up to 5,000x your stake.

Cat Wilde and the Lost Chapter – is a Play’n Go book slot that comes with a somewhat similar twist to the game at hand. A symbol will be chosen randomly on each spin, and the bonus round comes with extra Pyramid Spins in between the regular free spins. You can win up to 10,000x on a single spin here, which is unusually solid.
